Mega Sale Marathon Shopping

A week before the school holidays:

Ibuuu, betis Hanna sakit lagi lah Ibu.

My God, after like 4 days, she could still feel the aching? The 7-hour of marathon shopping was last Monday, Hanna, how could you still feel the pain?

OK OK - I’m Guilty as charged. I admit I’m a bad mother. I was an inconsiderate mom who made her two children skipped schools just so that they could tag along with her to MidValley. But I didn’t blackmail them or anything. They were all full of smiles that day. They liked it, especially when the exam was just over and they wanted to spend some quality time with me - besides getting new shoes and clothes for Raya of course.

I don’t like to procrastinate when it comes to buying things for my children. I made a vow earlier this year that I won’t be doing what I had been doing all these years – go shopping for Raya during Ramadhan! This year, I don’t want to be caught in the throngs of people who seemed to like what I liked. In the end, it was very frustrating when you got hold of the one that you desired but couldn’t get the size that you wanted. Or you liked the one on the mannequin, but that was the last piece and the wrong size. Or worse, you couldn’t find anything for anybody at all!

That was why I took leave on Monday and went shopping with Hanna and Hasya.

There were a zillion things to buy. Imagine how many blouses, t-shirts, jeans, pants, skirts, gowns, sandals and shoes that made up the long list of my To-Buy things:

Let's do a simple math:

There are 11 people living under the same roof with me. Six of them are my dear children, another three my maids, my dahhling Ayah and moi!

1) Each of my maids needs 3 blouses/t-shirts, 2 pants/jeans, a baju kurung and a pair of sandals – that makes it 7 items for each. Total : 21 items altogether.

2) Each of my 5 girls needs 4 blouses/t-shirts, 2 jeans, a baju kurung and a pair of sandals/shoes – that makes it at least 8 items for each. Total : 40 items. Don’t forget the extra skirts/gowns and stockings for the younger three which equals to 6. So, the Grand Total for the 5 girls : 46 items

3) My only boy – 3 jeans/slacks, 5 shirts/t-shirts, socks, a pair of sandal and a baju Melayu. Total : 11 items

4) Ayah – TBD
5) Moi - TBD

(Post-script Correction):
The total amount of things to be bought was 21+46+11 = 78! Minus the Baju Kurungs and the Baju Melayu that I’ve already bought/ordered (all 11 of them), and minus Items 4 and 5 (which aren’t important), the Grandtotal of the things that needed to be bought was 78-11 = 67!

I'd never accomplish buying those even if I had 4 arms! Not while you’re fasting or got pushed and pulled during a weekend sale. So I know I made the right decision to buy them on Monday, with the Mega Sale going on especially.

What left, you ask me?

I’m only left with less than 10 items to buy now. Pretty impressive, huh?

Kak Ja,

Cakap kat Hana tu ... "practice makes perfect darling ... this is for ur own good ... later u'll thank me for this ... sakit betis sikit je .. kenangkan segala keindahan + satisfaction of doing shopping!"

huhu ...

Shopping for raya? Malasnya memikirkan semua tu .. untung saya ini masih bujang-bujangan ... redah jer ...

P/s: No virtual cake for you because couldn't find any virtual bakery :P

Hi Aunty Ja,

Wah...very early lar your shopping...But after seeing the number of things you gotta buy (78?!?!), makes sense! And very impressive progress too!

I got lotsa things I wanna buy too (and need to buy), but students are always broke, no?

For example, my textbooks costs like, on average, (Canadian) $ 120, and that's excluding tax, and we have to times by 3.25~3.3 for the exchange rate, so my books cost like RM 450-RM 500 each!!!

*Faint*

I think I'm gonna need to start a fund-raising campaign just to buy books! ;)

Wow! 78 pasang in one day? memang sah marathon shopping la tu...

Baju melayu / baju kebaya / baju kurung for me and the family dah siap...cuma shirts / t-shirts /trousers / gowns je..hmmm..looks like I have to do my own marathon la..tapi sorang sorang, kalau bawak depa ni lagi lah memenatkan..

Peesha,
Ha... yg bujang-bujang pun pening jugak tau... mesti nak yg trendy-trendy gitu...

Tapi rasanya kalau beli barang sendiri pun boleh tahan jugak nak memusing satu shopping complex tu.. sementara nak tunggu yg berkenan...

Bila dah beranak pinak nanti... kalut lagu Kak Ja..hihihi...

Farina,
Lenguh bahu nak bawak barang... tapi kalau bawak hubby Kak Ja, usually dia akan ikut saja tolong comment & bawak barang. Kalau penat, dia duduk - sampai kadang2 tu tertidur kat kerusi tu...hehehe...

Daphne,
Aiyooo... so expensive the textbooks! When I was a student in CA, every end of the semester I'd sell off my books, so I got the money backla. The problems were only with fellow Malaysians who borrowed the textbooks from me at the end of the semester (sometimes I don't know them pun) Never saw those books again. I guess they sold them off to the U bookstore and get the greens to themselves.

Anyway, moderation is the best, especially when you are a student. Once you're married with children - then you have to start squeezing your brains out to prioritize things. Headaches!

Fund-raising? Good idea... but hmmhh... how aah?

Hi Waterlily,
Aisey..salah kira tu, 78 tu belum tolak the 11 Baju Kurungs and baju Melayus. 67 items... simple math pun boleh kantoi!

If you want to do the marathon, do it with your older children. Senang tolong bawak barang.. hehe.. If you go alone, you can park your car near the escalator so that you can put the things in the car 2-3 kali.

Good Luck with you own marathon dear :)

hahahha...tu la baca cepat sangat...tapi 67 pasang pun kira marathon jugak tu!

My eldest is 11 years old - boy - and hates shopping. Dia boring tunggu lama...anyway, its a good idea nak bawak dia jugak to help with carrying the bajus - but have to think of something to motivate him!

hahahaha...simple maths pun kantoi! kelakar tu!

Ja,

VERY impressive indeed!

We all baru ajer tempah Baju Melayu Hubby and Hilman semalam kat Om*r A*i. Parked at Tmn J*ya, and took the LRT to Masjid Jamek. Kononnya nak avoid jam, but caught in the rain lah pulak :(

Anyway, for now all Baju Melayu and Baju Kurung dah settled. Next, to get kasut raya, blouses/shirts and pants/jeans/skirts for the kids.

Errr, maybe you could help me with that, please? Hehehe!

Yus,
Senang hati la kalau semua dah settle kan? Bulan posa cuma buat biskut/kek 'tunjuk' hehehe..

I buat your mee hailam on Sunday... actually dah buat 3-4 kali dah & the kids suka gila!

Resepi lain??

Waterlily,
I was not referring to you when I said 'simple maths pun kantoi' .. hehehe.. I was referring to myself... I yg silap kira.. tu yg ada post-script correction tu... dari 78 to 67!

Shana...
Ni mesti VVIP customer ni, sampai boleh terima tempahan lagi nih!

Bila nak start shopping tu? I nak finish up the 'less than 10 items' tu plus Ayah's thing this weekend. I took Friday and Tuesday leave - so dapatlah 5-day leave. Bolehla shopping sikit during the weekend and sambut Ramadhan bercuti mcm orang Kedah :)

wanshana said...

Ja,

Takdernya VVIP customer. In fact, masa we all kat situ semalam, ada about 7-8 other people dok beghatoq nak ambik measurement jugak!

(Having said that, Arwah my FIL was a loyal customer of Om*r A*i, and they would layan jugak some of our very last minute tempahan sometimes)

Om*r A*i ni selalunya accept tempahan until 2nd week of Ramadhan rasanya.

Shana,

Wow... the workers there mesti committed punya. Agaknya dia dah allocate untuk the latecomers kot & also yg dah biasa dgn dia like you & family. That's good - customer comes first..

Hi Ja,
Sempaaat. Puasa on Monday kan? You have like 4 days..hehe..

Dalam Dakapan Ibu said...

Yus,
Kids at this age memang suka makan-makan kan? Last two nights I made jelly yg kotak tu sampai 6 kotak with 4 different flavors. Berebut makan sampai tak ingat dunia. Macamla tak penah jumpa.

Tapi the good thing is, masak apa pun depa makan!

Nasi goreng hailam berkuah... hmmhh...

Anonymous said...

alamak..lupa nak habag, kalau nasi goreng hailam, toksah bagi kuah banyak. nampak semcm pulak. I dulu pernah order kat kedai, tapi bila dah siap, tak jadi makan. nampak2 terus 'potong'.
Kalau buat nasi guna resipi tu, dia jadi nasi goreng cina lah. u tambah la udang goreng perencah garam kunyit+ sos tiram. menjilat gigi you! I guarantee... atau simple ayam goreng sbg side dish. memang licin lah...

Dalam Dakapan Ibu said...

Yus,
Cayalah! Boleh try nanti.. TQ :)
