Our Flying Guest

Today’s a sad day for the kids. The bird that they were taking care of since Saturday evening died this morning. Until it was buried, we still didn’t know the species of the bird.

I was getting into the car to fetch the girls from their taekwondo class on Saturday when I saw this bird near my car tire. It was soaked obviously due to the heavy rain earlier and the feathers were glued to its body. I asked my maid, Nani, to wrap it in a towel and feed it. After getting the girls, we went to a nearby petshop to get a birdcage. The girls were very excited of nursing the bird back to its normal self.

But we have to free the bird when it’s well enough to fly ok...

Alaaa Ibu... came the simultaneous replies....

Anyway, this was not the first time a bird came into our possession... the first was in January when this bird flew into the pantry and got itself inflicted by the wall fan. We let it go after putting some ointment on the bloodied spot near its beak.

Ok, back to the second bird. It was all black and wet and we were hoping that it was not a crow. It looked pretty hideous... This pix was taken on Saturday.

Yesterday, when the feathers were dry, we could see the colors - grey and brown. Still we had no clue of the species. By evening, the feathers were more visible and all dried up except for the area around the neck that still looked slightly wet... And this was taken on Sunday.

I told the girls... Tomorrow evening we have to let it go, ok? The bird will be 100%recovered by then.

But the bird died anyway. The girls were devastated when they learnt of the news. I guess the bird was sick. The thunderstorm must have affected it somehow.

Hhhmmmhhh.. RIP dear bird...

Hello Ibu, very happy have you aboard my place. How you found me? Yellow pages? Ha ha.
Hope you won't come back again after 22 years? Arhaaa ha ha.

First of all 6 children? Holy Smoke! And one of my lady blogger friends, no...two actually have 4 kids, and I teased them TV rosak ke?
You have 6? You don't watch late nigt movies? Ha ha. just joke joke.

You know, if a bird flies into your house, comes into your possession, it means good luck...but pity it died. I guess it caught a bad cold.
Since your 6 kids love birds, you now have an empty cage, why not go buy a Canary or better still a pair of lovebirds, Budgies? They make wonderful pets...can even teach them to say few words.

I read about your maid...if you read my previous posting, re how I interview people...before being married, I stay in my own bungalow homes..and employ maids....but I will discreetly leave Rgt 10 beside my bed on the floor, on a settee like as if it had fallen out...just to test whether they kept it or returned to me.
I was lucky, they returned to me. I gave it to them..."keep it".

But regret and sad your maid or you all have to go thru that experience. Never mind la, nobody is perfect, and she has hopefully learned her lesson.
Before I chabut, kalu you ada senang, take a peek my archive, "Among my many memories", D/d 12/20/07.

Ibu, you stay easy and keep well...see you soon, not 22 years, ya? Best regards, Lee.

DDI,
What you did was indeed commendable. Not many would do that. Although it is dead now, at least you did what you can to help.

Lee,
TV tak rosak pun 'boleh' apa.. he..he..
My daughter has been pestering me to buy them canaries. I told her that the birds won't be happy birds since they can't fly out.. and why not wait for other birds to come. Luckily she agreed.
Anyway, I think I'll put some moneyplants in it...

Salam Azian...

Baru terjumpa blog ni melalui blog U.Lee...banyak recipes??...Auntie salute dengan orang pandai memasak ni..dan Auntie jugak suka memasak , sayangnya , memasak yang biasa-biasa saja. Daging masak hitam memang popular kat Perak kan?
Itu adalah salah satu menu yang sangat wajib untuk keluarga Auntie. Ada sedikit kelainannya dengan recipe mak Auntie...nantilah Auntie tanya dia semula. Kalau Auntie yang masak, Auntie hantam saja....:-)
