A Strange Larva

Have you ever seen this caterpillar? This guy was feeding on my 6-foot mango tree leaf the other day. I saw the droppings but couldn’t find the source.

When my children and I looked closely then only we saw it! Look at the camouflage. It was a near-perfect.

A sudden itchiness on our skin was straightaway felt. Geli geleman when we observed it closely. Mr Grissom would love to see this larva. It has just emerged from its first cycle of being an egg. Now it was in the second stage before going to the third stage being a pupa (chrysalis). Then only this guy will emerge from the pupa into an imago (butterfly).

Probably this green thing will turn into a handsome imago when its time is ripe. But we’d never see it turning into one, would we? What can I say... I love my mango tree more... so sue me :)

Hi DDI,

Hey, I came from the link (Blog ID) you left on my blog. Thanks for coming by...

Wow, this caterpillar is exquisite! I've never seen anything like it before. Be careful, nanti accidentally touch, gatal pulak!

By the way, I just wanted you to know that I think mothers of special children are really special themselves...=) Cos God won't give them special children otherwise...

*Hugs* to you and Husna...

Hi Ibu, Wow! 6 children? And crazy over your other half?
Women like you don't grow on trees. Anymore like you around? Ha ha.
You know, when young, I love to fool around with snakes and iguanas, bring to school and lepas inside the girls classes...it was ha ha, hilarious to see 35 girls scrambling out thru windows and doors, teacher in sarong standing on her table....BUT, I am afraid of caterpillars!
Posted about this last week, "before you were born", and "when there were no computers".

Its a wonder you didn't chabut see it, ha ha. My wife would have yelled for the Marines, ha ha.
Bila your mango ripe hantar telegram, meantime, you be cool and keep well, Lee.

It's so amazing to see God's exquisite creation! Like Daphne, I've never seen anything like it before.

Was it a lone caterpillar? Or are there a few more of them around your garden? Make sure you do a thorough checks around your laman...Takut rosak some of your plants nanti...

Dalam Dakapan Ibu,
That is indeed a new sight for me. I have trees in the backyard, but also lots of birds flying in and out. So, rarely I can see such caterpillar. But with this kind of camouflage, the birds might as well give up.

Hi Daphne,
Phew! Luckily we didn't touch the leaf. It looked like that caterpillar left some kind of dust markings behind. I bet it'd become gatal when touched...

I wish I could do more for my children. Both Haziq & Husna are in a private special school. But as expected, there are problems. One of the main ones is the teachers. They come and go as they like.... Private tutors will come in handy but verrrry hard to get... Tq dear for dropping by :)

Lee,
Snakes & Iguanas??? My God!! What happened to the girls?? I couldn't imagine finding a snake in my school bag.. or an iguana in the open drawers... Remember those tables??

But come to think of it Lee, we did the same to the boys' locker room (for books la, not the changing room..he..he..) back in 1984. But we used frogs, not snakes. The girls lived in the school compund & the boys in town. So they had these lockers where they put their books and what nots in there. That April Fool night, we caught 2 plastic bags of frogs and had so much fun putting them in the unlocked lockers....

The next day was like mayhem.... Luckily, nobody pecah rahsia.. he..he..

Hi Shana,
I doubt there's more of that type. I've seen other ordinary ones around the garden. There are so many insects & bugs around the garden that my girls pestered me to get them a butterfly net. I went around OU and Mid Valley but couldn't find one. So I settled for a fish net instead..he..he.. Now every evening you'll see my girls running around with the net. Their passion now: to catch birds. Can you actually catch one using a fishing net??

Akmal,
Maybe my girls will catch the birds they want so bad in your backyard..He..he...
